FOUND: foundling store

Stumbled across the blog for foundling, then went over to their shop to browse. I am obsessed! They have earrings rings and necklaces, bridal and even cufflinks!

Personal favorites are the 'Darling' necklace :

and the Mama ring (which she will add the custom number to, according to how many children you have!):

I know what my mom is getting for Christmas!! Go check it out! What is your favorite piece?

Tweedle Dumb

I failed miserably at posting yesterday. I would like to say I have a good excuse, like I was abducted by gypsies or joined the circus as the latest trapeze artist. But no. I spent the night redecorating (read: cleaning) my room.

It is absolutely gorgeous now though, who knew I had carpet and a desk under all that clutter?!

After I cleaned my room, I made dinner. Well, a poorman's dinner anyway. My parents left me for four days and all I have managed to cook for myself is toast and spaghetti. I am a pathetic adult. C'est la vie!

I will leave you with this photo of myself and my puppy. I promise not to be a nincompoop and stop missing posts. I might even get a little crazy and make up for it with a second post tonight.

a little glitter never hurt anyone.

Going on a double date with the bubby (my endearing term for my boyfriend. sort of like you would call your husband 'hubby'.. .yes, we are are that couple, the couple most people make gagging noises at) and my parents.

We're going to a play called 'Separate Beds' about two couples....
"The truth and lies of each marriage come to the surface as they celebrate their anniversaries at sea. Ernie and Twink attempt to put the sizzle back into their marriage while Beth and Blake attempt to save theirs. A heartfelt comedy that will ring true with any couple who has ever contemplated sleeping in Separate Beds! "

I have high hopes for this play, considering the fact throughout the night, I am a blanket hog and the bubby is a space hog and we tend to get on each other's nerves. So I am ready to roar with laughter and poke fun at similarities between us and these fictional couples. Hurrah for date night!

On a very different note, I just saw the Miu Miu glitter booties for Fall 2011 on A Haute Mess. I have been reminded of a pair of shoes that I DIY'd in a minor crisis regarding the lack of glitter and sparkle in my wardrobe.

How cool are these homemade glitter heels?

Super easy to do! I just used an old pair of black heels, bought some glitter and epoxy glue at the dollar store, painted on the epoxy, shook on some glitter and let it dry! VOILA! Also did a flask, but that's another story.

Dreary Weather.

When I got up and headed to work this morning, the weather was absolutely dreadful. It had rained and was cold and was starting to put me in a funk. So I decided to throw together a quick inspiration board to lighten my mood. Here you go!

Camping Calamity.

This weekend started out relatively normal. The boy and I stayed in town Friday night cuddling and watching movies, since the weather was not exactly co-operating. Saturday morning, however, the weather did a 360 and it was gorgeous. We decided to head up to the campground after all (we go pretty well every weekend). On the way there, we drove a different route than normal, finding some beautiful scenery and woodlands. We pulled over and decided to get out and walk through, to see if we couldn't get any photos out of the landscape.

Not 15 minutes into snapping shots, I feel painful biting on my legs. I looked down, and low and behold I was standing on top of a red ant hill. The ants were up to my knees and I just screamed. Not really knowing what to do, I pretty well sprinted for the car, using my hands to try to get the ants off me. The boy, luckily, was much calmer and managed to pick up all my gear, shake off the ants and bring it out to the car where I was, no longer covered in ants, doing some sort of 'get-them-off-of-me-are-they-still-on-me-i-hate-bugs' dance. When he finally calmed me down and assured me that there really were none left, we both looked at one another and burst out laughing. Of course this would happen to me.

Apparently however, the ants were not the only thing to go wrong this particular Saturday. Later that night, we were sitting by the fire, talking and drinking some wine. Now, the chairs by the campfire have cup holders, and usually this is where I put my cell phone and anything I am drinking/eating goes on the side table. So we were carrying on and laughing and I was fiddling with my cell phone, and went to put it down, in the cup holder. (See where this is going....?) Next thing I know I hear 'PLOP'.

Yes. I dropped my cell phone in my wine. Less than a year old and it's a goner. It worked, with the exception of the power button, for about an hour, but now it will only give me death screen with red writing. I guess I will have to replace it. Probably with a cheaper phone, since I am horribly accident prone, and ruining expensive things seems to be my forté...

I suppose I should leave you with a bit of fashion. Here's what I wore yesterday!

A written tutorial .. Longsleeve 'Bodycon' Dress.

Alright, so I had a few questions on how to made yesterdays dress. So I put together an 'after the fact' tutorial. Had I known it would have been so popular, I would have done a step-by-step tutorial as I was making it.  I might make another one in black and if I do,  I will do a picture tutorial then.  For now...

of mice rats and men

I have noticed some striking similarities between rats and men...

  1. when they want attention, they will do pretty well anything to get it.
  2. at the time you need them to do something or go somewhere, they disappear.
  3. just when you think you are frustrated with them, they do something adorable and you can't help but love them.
  4. they steal your heart and won't give it back.
  5. if you give them all your love they will give you theirs.
here's a really poor picture of a dress that I made tonight!

a shoe thing

Went a little wild today, and bought up some shoes I have been drooling over for a while. Would love to hear any thoughts/comments about them. I think they are all the cat's meow, but what do I know, I'm just a lowly nerd!

I promise when they come in I will post complete outfits with them!

DIY - Daily Agenda.

Summer is zipping right along, and before I know it, I will back in the car on my way to the land of higher education and exams.

I recently started looking for a school-year agenda (yes I start early..). However nothing I was coming across seemed to suit my ever growing needs for organization. Some would have a full week layout but be missing month to month calendars, most had no place for notes whatsoever.

Quickly becoming frustrated I ran (somewhat like what I would think would be a mix between a schizophrenic and a soccer mom) to the craft store. I got a 8.5"x5.5" binder, paper, card stock and a clear lamination..somethingrather.

A couple hours days perfecting the perfect layout for the week templates etc, and VOILA! My very own, self made, just-the-way-i-want-it agenda!

Tah-Dah!

*(please note, Ratticus is obsessed with being on top of whatever it is that I am doing. The only reason that half this post doesn't say 1820aSDFQ@3a,k from her running across the keyboard is because she is asleep. For future posts, this is your warning, fair and square)*

You can't really tell where the pattern breaks, but there are inner sleeves on the front and back cover for random papers to be punched and filed.

^laminated the front and back to fend off spilled drinks/general sloppiness.

each month has its own calendar as well as week by week

There is also an 'inspiration' and a 'money' tab as well as my winter schedule and i'm sure there will the more to come as I think of them (that's the beauty of a binder).

an introduction of sorts

Hi.
I’m a twenty something student who was born and raised in East Coast Canada.

I currently reside in Ottawa, with my boyfriend of 4 years. We live together in a one bedroom apartment, which sometimes feels like a closet. I am the proud Mamma of two rats – Doodle and Ratticus.

This blog has no specific direction yet, I more or less just need somewhere to keep track of my ever growing obsession with sewing, photography and DIY as well as recount the on goings of my typically muddled and bizarre life.

I will do my best to update daily, and avoid long and boring (and sometimes pointless) posts. Feel free to read on, join in, and hopefully get some laughs.
